Accountability - Fight or Flight?

Accountability.  The word just sends shudders down the spine.  In the primitive brain world of flight versus fight response I can say that most of us run for the hills without looking back when we experience or perceive a threat.

For most of us accountability is a threat.  We run from accountability. We hide, we duck, dive, lie, dodge and everything in-between to avoid accountability.  We are avoiding the pain and the unpredictability that it brings.

Have you been there?  Perhaps you are there now?

Organizational Leaders: Women’s Security at Night in London (Protect your staff)

A veritable army of women now works in the night-time economy of London.  The numbers are growing every year – it is estimated that some 725,000 people work at night in London.  The figures do not include those who are out socializing or simply enjoying the city.

Have you ever had one of those moments in your life when you happen to come across stories or events that stop you dead in your tracks and you scratch your head in disbelief as to the incredulous situation unfolding in front of you? A moment where you realize that this really is happening or has happened.  That it is neither fiction nor speculation?

One of these moments occurred this weekend.  Whilst scrolling through NetFlix’s we came across a US TV series called The KeepersAn incredible documentary about the unsolved murder in November 1969 of Sister Cathy Cesnik a...

The Precise Art of Imprecision

While we may aim for precision in our use of language, we are inevitably drawn to imprecision.  From the time we wake up in the morning and remark on the cloudless blue sky, until the evening when we point out the stars twinkling against the black night sky, we accept and live with imprecision.  The sky, of course, is neither blue nor black, it is in fact colourless and the perceived colour is due to scattering of light in the atmosphere (1).  We are happy, however, to accept the imprecise statement that “the sky is blue” as shorthand for the more accurate, but less...
